DualSense is one of the PlayStation 5’s most powerful features. It feels like no other controller we’ve used before, thanks to its advanced haptic motors and “adaptive” triggers—at least while playing PS5 titles that take full advantage of it. While the DualSense is very simple to use on a PC, most games aren’t built to take advantage of its special technology.
The good news is that certain PC games, such as Metro Exodus, have begun to use Ps5 Pro controller unique features. And, due to Steam, we can use the DualSense controller in almost any PC game without having to do any complicated setup. So, we will discuss the DualSense controller and the various setups of this awesome gadget.
How To Connect Ps5 Controller To PC
Connecting The DualSense Via Wired Or Bluetooth
This phase of the setup is simple. You’ll need a USB-C to USB-A cable for your PC to connect the controller to it through USB (or a USB-C to C cable if you happen to have a convenient C port). While the PlayStation 5 system includes one, the DualSense offered separately does not. You’ll need to get your hands on a cable, plug it in, and you’ll be good to go. Even if you are using a Scuf Ps5 controller, you need to follow these steps.
A USB Bluetooth adaptor is required to utilize the DualSense through Bluetooth (or a motherboard with Bluetooth built-in). To connect, hit the Windows key and type “Bluetooth” to access the Bluetooth & other devices menu in Windows. Then click “Add Bluetooth or another device” and the first item on the following menu that says “Bluetooth.”
Your PC will begin looking for compatible devices. Hold down the PlayStation logo and the Share buttons on the DualSense until the LEDs around the touchpad start blinking rapidly. “Wireless controller” should appear in your Bluetooth devices list to connect to within a few seconds. To complete the matching, simply click on it.
With its DirectInput driver, the Ps5 wireless controller will now be accessible in Windows, and some games will recognize it and allow you to rebind controls. However, because many PC games today use Microsoft’s newer XInput driver for Xbox controllers, the DualSense will be severely limited without some assistance. This is when Steam comes into play.
Connecting Your Ps5 New Controller On Steam
Steam first provided support for the DualSense in November 2020, and it has only gotten better since then. Even if you wish to utilize your DualSense in non-Steam games, using Steam is by far the quickest way to get operating your Ps5 controller on PC. To begin, connect the DualSense to your PC using the wired or Bluetooth connections indicated.
Open Steam and go to Big Picture Mode after it’s connected. The DualSense controller should now be recognized and listed as a PlayStation 5 controller. Steam will set up the keys to look like an Xbox controller; the Triangle button will be Y, the Square button will be X, and so on.
Calibrate allows you to adjust the joystick sensitivity, while Preferences allows you to name the controller, enable or disable rumble, and customize the color and brightness of the LED strip around the touchpad. If you want to alter the layout or gyro controls of your DualSense controller, ensure sure PlayStation Configuration Support is enabled.
If this option is enabled, you can access Steam’s controller configuration screen by pressing the PlayStation logo button on the controller in any Steam game. You can modify button bindings, change how the touchpad works (it can do distinct left and right clicks), and configure the gyroscope if you wish to use gyro aiming from this screen.
You may also use Action Sets and Action Layers to enable completely distinct button bindings, which you can then swap to in-game. For example, if you only wanted to use gyro controls when flying in GTA, you could create an Action Set for it and activate it by pressing a certain key whenever you fly. So, Steam will automatically provide a Ps5 controller update.
Using Ps5 DualSense Controller With Non-Steam Games
If you want to utilize the DualSense with a game you bought from the Epic Games Store, for example, there’s a way that should work with just about anything, even emulators. The simple solution is to reintroduce Steam into the picture. For Windows executables, Steam provides a “Add to Library” option that allows you to add additional programs to your Steam library and subsequently uses the Steam overlay.
Click the “Games” menu in Steam, then choose the “Add a Non-Steam Game to my library” option to bring up a list of applications on your PC, as seen in the image above. In most circumstances, using Steam as an intermediate, you should be able to add a game and use a controller.
This was how to use the Ps5 controller on a PC. If you are facing any technical issues, then you can contact customer care (hoping that your Ps5 controller warranty isn’t void yet)

How To Use Ps5 Controller On Ps4?
Is it possible to play PS4 games with your PS5 controller? The answer is yes, however, the process is a little more involved than you would have anticipated.
By using a PC as an intermediary, you can use your PS5 controller with a PS4. If you follow these procedures, you’ll be able to use the Ps5 controller on Ps4:
- To begin, install the PS Remote Play app on your PC or laptop.
- Use the PS Remote Play app to connect with your PS4 console by following the directions on your PC.
- Connect your PS5 controller to your PC via USB cable and link it to the PS Remote Play app.
- You should be able to control your PS4 with the PS5 controller (which is still attached to your PC) after the Remote Play app is up and running.
If the DualSense controller is your only alternative and you don’t have a DualShock or other PS4-compatible controller on hand, using the PS5 controller on the PS4 is generally warranted. However, utilizing a PS5 controller on a PS4 will not provide you with the full next-gen experience.
Its Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers behave as if you were playing a PS4 game on a PS5: they don’t work. Furthermore, given the DualSense’s proclivity for wandering after 417 hours, we’d recommend saving that time for a PS5 game.
Can You Use Ps4 Controller On Ps5
While the DualSense pad will function with all PS4 games (except PSVR games that use the DualShock 4 lightbar), attaching a second DualShock 4 pad to your PS5 will allow you to play local multiplayer PS4 games without purchasing additional hardware.
- You can’t use your PS5 DualSense wire with the last-generation PS4 pad because it uses a micro USB cable. Find a micro USB cable and connect it to one of your PS5’s USB ports.
- Connect your DualShock 4 pad to your computer using the micro USB port on the top.
- When the light flashes, press and hold the PlayStation button in the middle of the DualShock 4 pad. If it works, the PS5 should prompt you to identify who is using the controller.
You should not need to repeat this step now that the PS4 pad has been linked with the PS5. You can even turn on the PS5 by pressing the PlayStation button and holding it down, just like a DualSense pad.
